Junior Fishing Days

Junior Fly Tying

The club organises a day or a couple of days where members meet up at the Brenig for a hearty breakfast in the Visitor Centre Cafeteria and then head out onto the lake for a days fishing.  Boat or Bank ? The choice is up to you.  *Please note that this is not a competitive day, just a bit of fun, although if you and your boat or bank partner want to make it competitive then go for it!!  Again if you want to head off or meet up at the end of the day to “swap tales of the one that got away”, then that’s your call.

This years members event was primarily aimed at inexperienced river anglers, but open to all abilities. Craig Evans a member of AAPGAI (Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors) with his Advance Single Rod certification, amongst other, hosted this river based event along side our chairman Tony Espley.

Tony Espley discussed equipment and techniques followed by a demonstration on spin fishing and Craig Evans took us all through his equipment, advice and demonstrated casting for improving your fly fishing.

We have monthly River & Lake Maintenance parties (Sunday and weekday events are held) and whilst these might not traditionally be classed as a “social” event, they still give you the opportunity to come along, meet new faces and find out what the club is about.  Generally there will be several members of the Committee in attendance so it gives you opportunity to come along, help out, have your say on any pressing issues you might have with your favourite beat.  During the summer months the work parties have also been known to end with a social barbeque if enough interest is logged.

Vale Of Clwyd Angling Club facilitate the Denbigh Fly Tying club during the traditional closed season.
So, October to February we organise a weekly (evening) social tying club, where you can come along, be you beginner, expert, or having never tied your own fly before. The club has kits available for anyone without their own materials and equipment. These evenings are generally informal, however if you have a particular pattern you would like to have a go at, there is always someone willing to assist. We also organise demonstration evenings from local fly tyers and fly dressing suppliers.

Every year we hold a Competition day exclusively for the Junior members, with prizes awarded to the top angler on the day and random spot prizes.  This is held at our club lake “Clywedog” Near Saron, Denbigh.  The club put on a buffet lunch to break the day and a prize giving ceremony is held at the end of the day.  Prizes are generally donated by local Fishing Tackle Dealers, Fly Dressing Suppliers, Fishing Establishments and private individuals – we thank them all for their generous support.

Again based at our club lake “Clywedog” Near Saron, Denbigh.  We hold a number of Junior days where the younger members are allowed any method fishing (Clywedog is usually “Fly Only”).  Tuition will be available for those new to the sport or less confident in their technique & ability.

Proposed for 2022, the Club are intending to hold a Junior Fly Tying event.  This will be to encourage the youngsters to have a go at tying a fly or two under tuition of experienced fly tyers.  As per the winter fly tying events, the club hold a supply of kits (vice, tools and materials).  Kindly due to sponsorship from some local individuals, and the fly tying material suppliers Deer Creek and Vicuna Dubbing we will have some tools and materials to let attendees take home at the end of the day.

Fancy a trip out of the area to another venue?  Vale of Clwyd Angling Club offer this too.  A day out at the wonderful Clywedog Reservoir, Near Llanidloes, or Ellerdine lakes Near Telford.  Based upon members interest, the club is happy to arrange an organised day to locations of your choice.  Why not let us know of something that is of interest to you and we will look at it.
